Asian Metal visits Mt Weld project of Lynas

On 24 November, Vivian Pang, the senior analyst of rare earth market, was invited by Pol Le-Roux, the vice president of Sales and Marketing of Lynas Corporation, to visit their Mt Weld Rare Earth Project. Tony Malloch, the General Manager WA Lynas Corporation, warmly received Vivian and explained the project progress in detail.
Tony firstly guided Pol Le-Roux and Vivian to visit the mine the company is operating. Tony noted Mt Weld deposit possesses high grade rare earth products rich in praseodymium and neodymium. Mt Weld is currently undertaking a drilling program to increase the size of the mineral resource in order to keep the life of mine operation over 20 years.

Later on, Vivian Pang visited Lynas' beneficiation plant. The company mines Rare Earths ore from the open pit at Mt Weld in Western Australia and produces Rare Earths concentrate in the beneficiation plant. The concentrate is shipped to their advanced material plant in Kuantan, Malaysia for separation into finished Rare Earths products. Total ready for sale production of rare earth oxide (REO) in FY17 was 16,003t, up by 26.7% compared to 12,631t in FY16. Ready for sale production of neodymium-praseodymium (PrNd) was 5,223t in FY17 compared to 3,896t in FY16.
