Metro 1, one of the top firms focusing on urban core real estate development in South Florida, has launched an idea and design/build competition for an urban park and garden at the Metro 1-developed Wynwood Gateway Complex. The winning plan for the Wynwood Gateway Park will be built and implemented by winter 2014 as part of Phase II of the commercial development that serves as the entryway to the vibrant Wynwood neighborhood. First place will also receive $10,000 in prize money, second – $5,000 and third – $2,500.
The competition was conceived by neighborhood visionary and Metro 1 President and CEO, Tony Cho, in partnership with DawnTown, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting architecture in Miami and AIA Miami, the local chapter of The American Institute of Architects, with the goal of creating a dynamic space that offers the local community, visitors and tourists a place to come together and enjoy the neighborhood in a public environment. The international competition seeks innovative idea and design concepts for more than 14,000 square feet of green space at the Metro 1-developed Wynwood Gateway Complex located at 2825 NW 2nd Avenue in Miami.
“We want the Wynwood Gateway Park to become an important part of Wynwood and the Miami community at large for years to come,” said Cho. “I hope others will follow suit and work to develop programs and initiatives that engage and ultimately enhance their communities.”
The competition is open to those practicing in all design and creative fields such as architects, landscape architects, urban planners and designers, artists, engineers, industrial designers, furniture designers and so forth. Registration is now open and applicants are asked to submit portfolios of their work during the qualification round which ends June 10, 2014.
